Nityatna Privacy Policy
Nityatna is a general-purpose, offline-first productivity application.
Information handled by the app
Nityatna processes the name a user optionally enters, project names and descriptions, skills, tasks, schedules, completion history, progress, reminder choices, streak settings, and backup preferences. This information is stored in app-private storage on the user's device.
Collection, sharing, advertising, and third parties
The current app build does not include Internet permission, user accounts, cloud synchronization, advertising SDKs, behavioral analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs. Nityatna does not receive, collect, sell, or share the user's project, task, progress, settings, or backup contents. A user-initiated export to a location selected through Android is controlled by the user and is not sent to Nityatna.
Backups and imports
Users may select an Android document-tree folder for manual and automatic backups. Current manual and automatic exports are encrypted. Portable backup encryption uses AES-256-GCM with authentication; password-derived keys use PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with a random salt. The automatic-backup password is encrypted through Android Keystore before local storage. Nityatna cannot recover a forgotten backup password.
Changing the automatic-backup password affects future backups only. Older encrypted files continue to require the password used when they were created. Plain JSON is accepted only to support legacy imports; the current app does not provide a plain-text export action.
Permissions
- Notifications: used to show reminders for tasks the user schedules.
- Exact alarm access: used only to let user-created task reminders and automatic encrypted backups run at the time selected by the user, including while the app is closed. The app falls back to an inexact alarm if this access is not granted.
- Folder and file access: granted through Android's system picker and limited to the folder or file selected by the user.
- Boot completed: used to restore enabled task-reminder schedules after a restart or app update.
Automatic backups use an Android alarm scheduled from the user's saved schedule. At the selected time, a private app receiver queues durable backup work. The encrypted write begins promptly and can continue under Android's background-work management without opening the app's interface. Android or device-manufacturer power controls may still affect completion if exact-alarm access is denied, the app is force-stopped, or the selected storage provider is unavailable.
Support communications
If a user chooses to contact support, Android opens the user's email app and the user decides what to send. The user's email address, message, attachments, and any device details the user includes are processed by the user's email provider and delivered to Nityatna's support mailbox. Nityatna uses support messages only to answer the request, investigate an issue, or retain a record where reasonably necessary. Support messages are not sold or used for advertising and are deleted when no longer needed for those purposes, subject to legal obligations. A user may request deletion by emailing the same support address. The user's email provider's privacy policy also applies.
Security
Local app data is protected by Android app isolation and device storage security. Cleartext network traffic is disabled. The embedded WebView loads packaged app assets, blocks file/content access and mixed content, and enables debugging only for debug builds. Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are explicitly disabled for app-private data.
No security measure can eliminate all risk. Users should secure their device, store backups in a trusted location, and retain backup passwords safely.
Retention and deletion
Nityatna supports a rolling four-year project window: the current calendar year, the two preceding years, and the following year. Before the first project is created, the app explains the current window, automatic deletion, the related data that will be removed, and that deletion cannot be undone inside Nityatna. The acknowledgement date, policy version, and window shown are stored locally and displayed in Settings. An existing installation containing projects receives the revised acknowledgement once before automatic retention begins.
After acknowledgement, when the app is first opened after the calendar year advances, it automatically and permanently removes projects older than the two preceding years and their tasks, completion history, reminders, ignored-weekday settings, and project-specific settings. A non-blocking receipt reports completed cleanup. Creating a manual or automatic backup does not itself trigger year-based deletion. Backups cannot re-import projects outside the supported four-year window.
Project data inside the supported window remains on the device until the user deletes it, clears Nityatna's app storage, or uninstalls the app. Nityatna separately applies rolling limits to backup files created in the Android folder selected by the user. The app keeps the latest seven recognised automatic backups and the latest ten recognised manual backups. After a new backup is successfully created, an older backup of the same type may be deleted when that type exceeds its limit.
Retention is based on the number and type of recognised backup files, not on a fixed number of days. For example, seven daily automatic backups generally represent about seven days of history, while seven weekly automatic backups generally represent about seven weeks. Manual backups remain until they are deleted by the user or replaced by newer manual backups after the ten-file limit is exceeded.
Year-based deletion applies to app-private data; it does not rewrite or erase an encrypted backup file that was created earlier. Uninstalling Nityatna also does not automatically remove backup files stored outside app-private storage. Users can review or delete exported backup files through the selected Android document provider or file manager. If the selected folder is unavailable, permission has been removed, or the storage provider cannot complete deletion, older files may remain. Because this build has no account or server storage, there is no remote account data to delete.
Children
Nityatna is a general productivity tool and is not specifically directed to children. The current build does not knowingly collect personal information from any user, including children.
